Pythagoras
Pythagoras of Samoa (569-475BC) was a Greek born mathematician. In the Caribbean, we come across his work in secondary school when we study the Pythagoras' theorem in Geometry. Pythagoras also did work with numbers and is known as the "father of numbers". Pythagoras and his students believed that everything is related to numbers, numbers are the ultinate reality and through mathematics everything could be predicted and measured in ruthmic patterns or cycles.
Pythagoras's Theorem
For any right-angled triangle, the squre on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides. The website MathsisFun has an illustration that will help you to understand this theorem.
Pythagoras's theorem is still an esstial part of the secondary school curriculum for every student of mathematics.
